– Chubb is embedding cybersecurity protection within its homeowners policy to protect clients from emerging risks associated with online activities.
– Cyber risks are growing in sophistication, with more advanced phishing and social engineering schemes attempting to trick individuals into sending money or providing personal information.
– Chubb is also warning customers about the risks associated with deepfakes, which scammers are using to pose as family members in distress and request money.

Carolyn Boris, vice president and product development manager for personal risk services at Chubb, highlights the importance of practicing safe cyber hygiene when using devices. This includes setting up strong passwords, using two-factor authentication for financial accounts, being cautious about what personal information is shared online, avoiding clicking on ads or links in emails, and not using free USB ports that could provide access to mobile devices.

Boris notes that the rapid adoption of generative AI models has made it easier for scammers to create more sophisticated scams, and she stresses the importance of vigilance when reviewing emails and phone calls from unknown numbers. Chubb’s personal lines coverage includes assistance for identity theft and cybersecurity incidents, such as the loss of funds due to a cyberattack or social engineering scam. Being proactive and taking precautions, such as creating strong passwords and educating family members about the risks, is key to staying safe in today’s connected world.
